VI Iberian Playback Theatre Gathering

In November, we marked the sixth edition of the Iberian Playback Theatre Gathering in Barcelona. It’s hard to fathom that six years have passed since the inception of this event. Initially, we were merely a small group of Spanish and Portuguese playbackers, and over time, the gathering has raised international interest, drawing participants from many countries. This was evident as 80 individuals came together, on this edition, to celebrate the vibrant community of Iberian playback.

I consider myself fortunate to be a member of this committee, and I am truly grateful for Nadia Zuñiga’s dedicated efforts as the on-site organizing member. Her hard work in securing an lovely venue, the Hostel Xanascat, and efficiently coordinating numerous aspects of the event has been invaluable. And of course, my gratitude also goes to the rest of the committee; Diana, Ana, Beatriz, Nuno and Antonio. I wish I could’ve helped more from London.

This edition was a significant one for me. It was the first time it was celebrated in Catalonia, and my roots showed up in being able to conduct in Catalan, my first language. It also was great having my colleague form London Playback, Andi Haase, to co-facilitate with me a workshop during the gathering.

I’m amazed to witness the growth of our community, with a strong sense of connection—a quality I aspire to see within the British Playback Theatre community. The dream of replicating such cohesion in the UK is a goal that deeply resonates with me. Meanwhile, see you in the seventh edition next year in Portugal!
